Privacy policy
Effective October 7, 2026
Sound & Scene is an app for logging and scoring the concerts you go to and sharing them with friends. Sound & Scene is run by The Standard Business Group LLC ("we" and "us" in this policy). This policy explains what information Sound & Scene collects, how it's used, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. Questions or requests: [email protected].
The short version
- We collect what you put into Sound & Scene (your profile and the shows you log) so the app can work.
- We don't sell your information, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
- Your contacts are only used to find friends who are already on Sound & Scene, and they aren't stored.
- You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from Settings.
Information you give us
- Account: your email address, used to send sign-in codes.
- Profile: your name, @handle, profile photo, bio and home city.
- Phone number (optional): if you add one, it's used only so friends who have your number in their contacts can find you. You can change or remove it in Settings at any time.
- Shows and activity: the shows you log (artist, openers, venue, date, scores, review, where you stood or sat, song of the night, setlist and starred songs), photos and video clips you add to shows, festivals, lists, plans (shows you're Going to), your Want to see list, venue tips, comments, Encores and who you follow.
- Feedback: anything you send through Send feedback, along with the app version and your phone's operating system version.
- Reports, blocks and community rules: when you report a post, comment or profile, we keep the report, the reason you chose and a copy of what you reported, so we can review it even if it's later edited or deleted. The person you report isn't told who reported them. We also keep the list of people you've blocked, and when you agreed to the community rules.
Information collected when you use certain features
- Contacts (only if you tap Find friends from contacts): the app sends the email addresses and phone numbers in your contacts to our server to check which belong to Sound & Scene members. They're used only for that check and aren't saved. Only members who leave "Let contacts find me" switched on can be matched.
- Location (only if you allow it): used to show concerts and venues near you. To alert you when an artist on your Want to see list plays nearby, we save an approximate area (rounded to roughly 10 km / 6 miles), not your exact location.
- Notifications (only if you allow them): we store a notification token for your phone so we can send you notifications, such as comments, new followers, friends' plans and show reminders.
- Photos: Sound & Scene only sees the photos you choose to add. When you save a share card, it's added to your photo library only when you tap Save.
- Calendar: Add to Calendar opens your iPhone's own New Event screen. Sound & Scene doesn't read your calendar.
Sound & Scene doesn't use your microphone, doesn't use advertising identifiers, and doesn't include analytics or advertising software.
How we use information
- To run the app: sign you in, save your shows, build your rankings, charts, Passport stamps, taste matches and recaps, and show your posts to the people you've chosen.
- To send the notifications you've turned on, including the Friday digest, which you can switch off in Settings.
- To keep Sound & Scene safe and working: reviewing reports, enforcing the community rules (which can mean removing content or suspending accounts), preventing abuse, fixing problems, and acting on your feedback.
Who can see what
- Public accounts: anyone signed in to Sound & Scene can see your profile, shows, lists, plans and Passport.
- Private accounts: only followers you approve can see your shows and activity. Your name, @handle and profile photo are visible to anyone signed in, so people can find and follow you.
- Photos and video clips are stored at web addresses that can't be guessed, but anyone who has the address can open it.
- Share cards you post to Instagram or elsewhere are governed by that service's own policies once shared.
Services we rely on
We share information with these providers only as needed to run Sound & Scene:
- Supabase: our database, sign-in and photo storage.
- Expo and Apple: delivering push notifications, and distributing the app through the App Store and TestFlight.
- Google (Gmail): sending your sign-in code emails.
When you search or browse, Sound & Scene looks things up with these services. Ticketmaster and setlist.fm lookups go through our server, so those services receive only the search (an artist or venue name, and sometimes a rough area, about 1 km across). The others are looked up directly by your phone and also receive your device's internet address. None of them receive your Sound & Scene account:
- Ticketmaster: upcoming shows and tickets.
- setlist.fm: setlists.
- Apple (iTunes Search): song previews and artist genres.
- Deezer: artist names and photos.
- OpenStreetMap (Photon): venue and city search.
- Wikipedia: venue photos.
We don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your information while your account is open. You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. That permanently removes your profile, shows, photos, comments, plans, lists and everything else tied to your account. Some copies may stay briefly in our providers' systems, such as logs, before they're removed. You can also email us to ask for a copy of your information, a correction, or deletion.
Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access rules in our database limit who can read each item. No system is perfectly secure, so please use Sound & Scene with that in mind.
Children
Sound & Scene isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or move your information, or to object to how it's used. Email us to use any of these rights, and we'll respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also tell you in the app.
